Berhampur, August 10 (LocalWire): Former union minister and Berhampur Lok Sabha MP Chandra Sekhar Sahu on Saturday visited the flood-affected villages in Gajapati district to assess the situation.
Besides, Kasingar NAC, Sahu also visited the villages located on the bank of river Vansadhara – Badigaon, Sara, Khandaba Kidigaon, and Palasingh – and spoke to the villagers to understand their plight and damages suffered by them.
Though no major damage was reported due to the recent flood in the Vansadhara, the district administration had shifted around 650 people from the low-lying areas to safer places since the river was flowing above the danger level at Kasinagar for two days.
Road communication in several parts of district was disrupted following the damage of approach roads.
However, almost all damaged roads have been repaired and the communication in the area has been restored, official sources said.
During the discussion, the villagers suggested gadwall to protect the villages, while pointing out that there was a need to increase the height of the roads and culverts in some places.
Sahu assured the villagers that he will be taking up the matter with the district administration so that appropriate action can be taken.
