Berhampur, March 7 (LocalWire): While Berhampur emerged as the cleanest town in Odisha, Silk City topped the list of clean cities in the state in a survey released by the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs on Wednesday.
A total of 4,237 cities had taken part in the Swachh Sarvekshan 2019 survey.
“Berhampur has been ranked 216 in national ranking and first in the state,” said Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC) commissioner Chakravarti Singh Rathore.
“The survey had begun in September 2018. Third-party verification of the data by an independent agency was done in January,” he said.
Last year, Bergamot town was ranked 305 in the national level and fourth in the state.
“We will try to improve our ranking in the national level from next year with support of the local residents,” he said.
Berhampur is the first municipal corporation in the state to declare open defection free (ODF) on October 2, 2018, on the day of birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
