Berhampur, August 23 (LocalWire): The first search committee meeting to shortlist applicants for the post of vice-chancellor of Berhampur University is likely to be held on August 30 in Bhubaneswar.

The last date of submitting the application for the post was Wednesday last.

The three-member committee constituted by the governor and chancellor of the university Ganeshi Lal will scrutinise the applicants to select a few candidates for preliminary interaction.

Based on the interview, the committee will recommend three names to the chancellor for his final selection.

The governor might accept one of the names suggested by the search committees and appoint or reject all candidates and seek fresh recommendation from the Search Committee.

The search committee is headed by retired IAS officer Chinmaya Basu as the chairman, the other two members include former VC of Berhampur University and UGC nominee Aditya Prasad Padhy, and Council of Higher Secondary Education vice-chairman and former vice-chancellor of Utkal University Ashok Das, as a nominee of the syndicate.

“At least six retired and in-service professors of Berhampur University have applied for the post this time,” sources said.

Process for appointment of new permanent VC in the university was initiated following the end of the three-year term of Rajendra Prasad Das on 2 August.

In the interim, the governor has appointed the southern range revenue divisional commissioner T Ao as the VC of the university, who will keep charge until the appointment of a new VC.
