Berhampur, Jan 2 (LocalWire) Around 1500 people, including doctors, medicos, nurses and members of different organizations in Silk City on Wednesday took part in a walkathon to create awareness on “Save the Girl Child” campaign.
Divided into seven different groups, the rallies started from seven locations in the city and ended at Khallikote College Stadium.
Berhampur Obstetric and Gynecological Society (BOGS), a unit of Federation of O&G Society of India (FOGSI), organized the walkathon.
BOGS secretary Indira Palo said the main objective of the walkthon was to spread the awareness on “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao” (BBBP) and “Save the Girl Child” movements.
Participants included students of MKCG Medical College, Nursing College, Homeopathic College, ANM Training Institute and different organizations.
The participants carried banners and placards reflecting the message on saving the girl child.
In a brief address, senior doctors highlighted the negative effects of female foeticide and infanticide, and urged people to give a boost to female education.
