Bhubaneswar, June 24 (LocalWire): BJD Member of Parliament from Cuttack constituency, Bhartruhari Mahtab, has won the coveted Sansad Maha Ratna Award for sustained qualitative performance in the 16th Lok Sabha.
The award, presented once in 5 years, was shared between Mr. Mahtab and Mrs. Supriya Sule, NCP MP from Baramati in Maharashtra.
The Sansad Ratna Awards were instituted by a Chennai-based NGO Prime Point Foundation, and the eMagazine PreSense, following the suggestions of Dr APJ Abdul Kalam in order to honour perfection-oriented Parliamentarians.
Mr Arjun Ram Meghwal, MoS for Parliamentary Affairs and Chairman of the Jury Committee for Sansad Ratna Awards observed,
“When ‘We the people’ elect the Parliamentarians and Legislators, they have the moral responsibility to monitor the performance of the elected representatives.
Recognition and performance review of the Parliamentarians by civil society helps strengthen democracy.”
Mr. Mahtab, while accepting the award, said, “I feel humbled at being conferred the award, and thank the Prime Point Foundation and the Sansad Ratna Award Committee for taking into account my performance.
It is a unique endeavour which recognizes the genuine work of Members of Parliament and encourages MPs to work harder.
It also acts as a morale booster and attracts the youth of the country towards public life.”
