Bolangir, Oct 27 (LocalWire) The three-day long Bhimpahad Mahostov in Mukundpur panchayat in Deogaon Block will be held from October 28 to 30, said Laxman Meher, President of Bolangir District Central cooperative Bank.
The Mahostov is being organised on the foothills of Bhimpahad every year which has 64 caves linked to first war of Independence, Meher, who is also the president of the Mahostov, said.
These caves assumed significance as during tribal uprising led by freedom fighter Chakara Bisoi against the British, the Athgaon Jamidar, Dharma Singh Mandhata Majhi had given shelter to Bisoi and his followers hiding them in these 64 caves of Bhimpahad.
“We request the State government and centre to do historical research about the area so that many facts will be known”, says Meher.
Bhimpahad mountain range starts from Bhimdunguri and extends up to far away Tel river in Sonepur district.
In the past, many sages had worshipped in these caves which boast huge stones with ‘yoni’ and ‘tantra’ carving besides others important things.
The government has already declared it as a tourist spot and developmental works are now under way.
“We have requested Sambalpur University to carry out a detailed historical research of the area”, said Purna Panda ,a local Journalist.
