Bhubaneswar, Oct 10 (LocalWire): The long-standing demand by the Odia diaspora living in Surat of direct air connectivity to Bhubaneswar is soon going to be a reality. The Centre has agreed to start a direct flight from the state capital to Surat from 1 January 2020.
‘I’m delighted that my request to civil aviation ministry to commence a direct Air India flight between Bhubaneswar and Surat has been granted,’ MP Aparajita Sarangi, tweeted today.
Grateful to @narendramodi @HardeepSPuri, Sarangi tweeted.
The BJP Parliamentarian said she had met civil aviation minister Hardeep Singh Puri alongwith Surat MP in July and they had both requested him to start a direct flight between Surat and Bhubaneswar.
A large number of Odias settled in Surat are engaged in various spheres of trade and commerce.
However, due to absence of any direct air connectivity, they were facing a lot of difficulty in travelling.
Earlier, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had also urged the Centre to introduce direct flights between the two states.
