Bhubaneswar, August 5 (LocalWire): Achyuta Samanta, MP, Kandhamal appreciated the welfare schemes and programmes explained in the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Bill 2019, which are transgender sensitive, non-stigmatizing and non-discriminatory.
Participating in the discussion today in Lok Sabha, he expressed BJD’s stance to support the bill.
He congratulated the minister of Social Justice and Empowerment, Thawar Chand Gehlot to come out with such a considerable and human bill with solid amendment in 2018 for one of the most marginalized communities of the country.
He said we as a society are responsible for the the transgenders’ condition as we often ignore them.
Lack of access to education and non availability of job forces them to take begging and other activities but still amidst all these adversities there are some transgenders like Acharya Mahamandaleswar Laxminarayan Tripathy who broke stereotypes to prove that they are also capable and deserving like others.
She struggled to get an order from Supreme Court to get PAN card, Aadhar Card, passport for transgender equalizing them with others.
Though it is just a biological change in human body they are suffering a lot.
They are abandoned by their family and society and there are no facilities to pursue studies in schools and colleges and therefore they can’t get employment.
Samanta also requested 10 people from the transgender council instead of 5 members.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has made provisions for transgender to avail facilities of BPL category to get the subsidized rice and kerosene.
He has also given opportunity in politics to Meera Parida, a transgender. Similarly KIIT & KISS is the first organization in the country to provide job to a transgender Sadhana Mishra, he added.
