Rourkella, September 16 (LocalWire): The Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC) of ISRO is celebrating the birth centenary of Vikram Ambalal Sarabhai, the father of the Indian space programme.
The SDSC has joined hand with NIT Rourkela for the first programme in Odisha, because of the institute’s association with ISRO.
The inauguration programme of the celebration was held at the Bhubaneswar Behera Auditorium NIT Rourkela.
Speaking on the occasion, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) CEO Deepak Chatraj said, “RSP has a long association with some of the premier programmes in the field of space and defence of the country and we are proud of that association. In fact, we are providing different kinds of steels towards the various rocket programmes of ISRO and I am sure this will continue in future also.”
He termed Dr Sarabhai as the renaissance man of the entire science programme of the country.
“His contribution has no comparison in the scientific and research environment of the country,” he said adding that as one of the members of the governing body of NIT Rourkela, he will request the NIT authorities to introduce an undergraduate or postgraduate course in space science as this will immensely benefit the country.
SDSC SHAR, ISRO director A Rajarajan thanked the NIT Rourkela for being the partner in the celebration.
