Bhubaneswar, Dec 24 (LocalWire) Prime Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) strongman Narendra Modi on Monday accused Naveen Patnaik-led Biju Janata Dal (BJD) government for farmers’ plight in Odisha.
Addressing a public rally at Khurda on Monday, Modi said: “The Odisha government is depriving farmers of central government benefits. Why has it not adopted the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana scheme that is meant for timely payouts to the kisans during crop loss?”
“The BJP is committed to all-round development of all farmers in Odisha and rest of India. We want to give them what they deserve. We are working on linking mandis to the internet and also set up more cold storages,” he added.
Modi further blamed the Odisha government for not working for the overall development of the state.
“Why is Odisha still lagging behind in sanitation? Why Odisha youths have to migrate to other states for jobs? Why women and children are dying of malnutrition? Why there are not enough doctors at hospitals? Why there is still drinking water problem in major parts of Odisha? The government needs to come up with honest answers to work transparently for the development of its people,” said Modi.
Modi arrived Bhubaneswar on Monday afternoon to launch projects worth Rs 14,523 cr in the state, besides, inaugurating IIT Bhubaneswar campus, Lalitgiri museum and laying foundation stone for a permanent building of Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Berhampur.
He also released a commemorative coin and postage stamp in memory of Paika Rebellion.
