Berhampur,Feb 20 (Localwire): The BJD leader in Ganjam district who tried self-immolating herself inside the premises of SP (Berhampur)’ office twelve days ago, succumbed to her injuries at a private hospital at Bhubaneswar on Thursday.
Meenakhi Mishra, 41 of Panda Colony under Baidynath Pur police station tried self-immolating by pouring kerosene on herself on February 12 in protest of the arrest of her son.
Deceased’s son Krutibash Mishra alias Raja was allegedly arrested in an assaulting case, police said.
In critical condition with over 70% burn injuries, she was admitted at MKCG Medical College and Hospital and then shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack.
From there she was admitted in a private hospital in Bubaneswar, where she took her last breath, sources said.
Her son who was in an interim bail by the court since February 13, a day after the incident, her daughter along with some local BJD leaders were presented in the hospital during her death.
Though the reaction of the deceased’s son was not available after the death, he had earlier criticized the police saying that they harassed his mother for which she took to self immolation.
