Paradip, April 2 (LocalWire): Several protests rocked the BJD for days after party supremo and CM Naveen Patnaik nominated Sambit Routray for the Paradip Assembly seat. Local leaders, however, after a meeting today, promised to campaign for Routray only if Damodar Rout and his son, promised to agree to their condition.
Kujang block BJD unit president Narendra Parida said, ‘there is strong discontentment among party leaders and workers for ignoring Samanatray and other aspiring candidates and giving the ticket to Routray.
But party leaders from Paradip municipality and Kujang block decided that if BJP leader Damodar Rout campaigns in favour of his son in Paradip and Routray campaigns in favour of BJD Balikuda Erasama Assembly candidate Raghunandan Das, who is pitted against his father, local leaders will cooperate and campaign for Routray.’
Paradip Urban BJD unit president Sumant Kumar Biswal, Paradip Municipality Chariman Basant Kumar Biswal and other BJD leaders Gobind Tarai, Tapan Samantray, Prakash Parida and others were present in this meeting.
Rout had stated earlier, ‘We are father and son in the family but separate in political life’. He, therefore, had not campaigned in favour of his son in Paradip as he is contesting as the BJP candidate for the Balikuda Erasama Assembly seat.
