Cuttack, March 27 (LocalWire): BJD legislator and chit-fund scam accused Pravat Ranjan Biswal has decided not to contest in the upcoming elections.
The three-time legislator from Choudwar-Cuttack was arrested by CBI in September 2017 for his alleged links with Ponzi firm Artha Tatwa.
In a letter to party chief Naveen Patnaik, Biswal wrote: “The case against me was bogus. BJP used CBI to defame me and BJD. I will always remain with you and the party. Whatever duty you think fit for me, I will accept.”
Biswal’s letter has triggered speculation that his son Souvik, who is currently BJD’s student wing vice-president, may contest from his father’s seat.
Earlier, BJD legislator from Banki and another accused in chit-fund scam, Pravat Tripathy had also written to Patnaik about his decision to not to contest elections. It’s also speculated that his son Devi Ranjan, who’s president of BJD’s student wing, may be given a ticket from Banki.
