Jagatsinghpur, April 1 (LocalWire): Feud, discontent and jealousy among political party candidates and their supporters is rarely noticed except every five years, when an election rears its head and the internal dispute comes to the fore.
The heat wave of invidious discontent is brewing over the selection of candidates in four Assembly constituencies and one Lok Sabha seat and has put a question mark on BJD’s prospects for winning the seat.
The BJD is simmering over the selection of Balikuda-Erasama sitting MLA Prasant Muduli for Jagatsinghpur seat, Raghunandan Das from Balikuda-Erasama seat, Paradip sitting MLA Damodar Rout’s son Sambit Routray from Paradip, district BJD unit president Bishnu Das from Tirtol and Tirtol sitting MLA Rajshree Mallick from Jagatsinghpur LS seat.
Supporters of Amrendra Das, aspirant from Jagatsinghpur have reacted violently and also gheraoed the CM’s residence Naveen Nivas and urged him to replace Muduli otherwise they vowed to boycott the elections.
A BJD leader said ‘It is sheer injustice to deny youth leader Das from Jagatsinghpur seat so we have vowed to boycott the elections if the BJD supremo does not replace Muduli’.
In Tirtol, Basant Kumar Mohapatra led a protest against sitting MLA Rajshree Mallick as the candidate for Jagatsinghpur Lok Sabha seat because of her lack of popularity, anti-party activities and lack of relation with other leaders and workers in the grassroots level.
On the other hand, BJD rebels led by Raghunathpur block unit BJD president Debasish Tripathy have strongly protested Bishnu Das as MLA BJD candidate from Tirtol seat for creating fraction and difference in the party.
Similarly, trade union leader Santosh Patnaik, aspirant for the Paradip Assembly seat protested Routray as the MLA candidate because of lack of popularity and also because his father Damodar Rout had recently joined the BJP.
