Berhampur, March 25 (LocalWire): Several aspiring candidates of major political parties have been offended this year after being denied tickets and resigned showing their disapproval. Today, a former MLA from Gajapati district Bharat Paik resigned from the BJP.
Paik wanted to contest from Mohana, a reserved Assembly constituency for Scheduled Tribes but the ticket was, instead, handed over to Prasant Mallick. Paik, therefore, resigned from the party and has decided to contest as an Independent from Mohana.
‘I have sent my resignation letter to the state party president Basant Panda,’ said Paik. He was the BJP candidate from Ramagiri Assembly constituency during the 2004 elections which he won. Later, the constituency was merged with Mohana in the delimitation process.
Prasant Mallick, however, said Paik’s resignation would not impact the party organization in the district.
