Kendrapara, July 11(LocalWire): Sabitri Agrawalla , the BJD candidate from Patkura Assembly constituency, was allegedly caught on camera recently while distributing money to a voter at Chata village within the Assembly segment in Kendrapara district.
Her political opponent BJP cried foul alleging violation of the model code of conduct and lodged a complaint against Aher with the chief election commission, New Delhi, state election commission, Bhubaneswar and the returning officer of Patkura Assembly seat, Kendrapara.
Addressing media persons at Kendrapara, the national general secretary of BJP and in-charge of the party in the state, Arun Singh stated that her act amounts to influencing voters to exercise their rights in her favour.
She is seen in the photograph distributing money to a voter in Patakura on 9 July.
‘It is gross violation of the model code of conduct on the part of the BJD candidate.
Sabitri Agrawalla. She violated the model code of conduct for her involvement in criminal activities amounting to bribery which is punishable under section 171 (b) and 171 c of IPC,’ said Singh.
He also alleged that many BJD ministers and MLAs are distributing money to the voters but the officials are not taking any action against them.
Agrawalla, however, denied the charge that she was trying to influence the voters by distributing money.
‘I never handed-over money to any voter. BJP is trying to tarnish my image by leveling false allegations against me as the voters of Patkura are all set to elect me with a huge margin,’ Agrawalla said.
Sabitri Agrawalla was also caught on camera on 10 May while allegedly distributing government relief money to some cyclone-affected villagers at the primary agriculture cooperative society at Nahang village under Derabisahi block in Kendrapada district in the presence of government officials.
