Jagatsinghpur, March 23, (LocalWire): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has picked expelled BJD leader Damodar Rout as its candidate for Balikuda-Erasama assembly seat in Jagatsinghpur district.
While BJP district president Satyabrat Mohapatra was nominated for Jagatsinghpur, congress has re-nominated sitting MLA Chiranjib Biswal from the seat. BJD is yet to announce its candidate.
Sources say that the battle for Balikuda-Erasama would be a cakewalk for Rout, considering his mass appeal, and the fact that he has won the seat for five times.
Rout is also expected to get secret support from his admirers in BJD and Congress.
He had won the seat five times: 1977-1980, 1980-1984, 1990-1995, 2000-2004 and 2004-2009. And after the seat’s bifurcation, he contested from Paradip and won twice: 2009-2014 and 2014-2019.
BJP’s state vice-president Nrusingha Sahu said, “We will give full support to Rout. Raghunandan Das’s exit from BJP will not affect the party, as hundreds of Congress and BJD workers would join Rout.”
