Bhubaneswar, Dec 19 (LocalWire) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has promised loan waiver to Odisha farmers if voted to power in the state in the upcoming assembly elections.
At a press conference, BJP state president Basant Panda said: “We will waive loans of all farmers in the state if BJP comes to power.”
Panda said the party will also make provision for interest-free loans for Odisha farmers.
Meanwhile, the BJP launched “Mandi Chala Abhiyan” from Wednesday till January 7 protesting the irregular functioning of mandis and delay in paddy procurement in the state.
Panda said BJP will gherao the state secretariat on Jan 8 to pressurize the government for farm loan waiver.
Earlier, the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) said the party will stage a demonstration in front of the Parliament on Jan 8 demanding hike in the Minimum Support Price (MSP) of paddy.
Senior party leaders lashed out at the BJP government at the Centre and said it betrayed Odisha farmers with false assurance to increase MSP of paddy.
They criticised the BJP government for not hiking paddy MSP in accordance with the recommendations of the Swaminatnan Committee.
BJD Rajya Sabha member Prasanna Acharya at a press meet here said: “We demand the hike of paddy MSP to Rs. 2930 and implementation of the recommendations of the Swaminatnan Committee.”
The BJD workers and leaders will leave for New Delhi from Bhubaneswar on January 6 on a special train and arrive there on January 7.
