Berhampur, July 23 (LocalWire): BJP’s Ganjam district unit today protested against Southco Utility, the power distribution company, for erratic power supply and demanded improvement of power infrastructures in the district.
Raising slogans against the power distribution company, several BJP supporters reached the corporate office of Southco and demonstrated.
A memorandum containing their demands was handed over to the officials of the company.
The saffron party also demanded replacement of old transformers, broken electric poles and low-lying electric wires and setting up of new sub-stations under the Integrated Power Development Scheme.
‘Unscheduled power cuts for three to four hours daily in urban areas like Berhampur is a regular phenomenon.
In rural areas, the power cut is more than five hours regularly,’ alleged BJP’s Ganjam district president, Kanhu Charan Pati.
‘Students are bearing the brunt as their study is being affected due to lack of power supply,’ he said.
The BJP leader said old transformers in many areas in the city were not being replaced and in several areas, the power line was hanging dangerously low.
The company’s Chief Operating Officer, Arun Kumar, said, ‘there is no power cut at present.
Maybe due to some technical snag in the power lines, staff have been forced to switch off the power for repair work.’
