Bhubaneswar, Mar 26 (Local Wire): The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Thursday announced shifting of major haats to nearby open areas to ensure they continue their operations during the lock down period.
BMC Commissioner Prem Choudhary told reporters that it has decided to ensure operations of vegetable vendors and others selling essential products.
He said, “We have planned to de-congest the major haats through several interventions.
We have decided to shift some crowded markets into open areas near to them,”
He also said that some of the vendors who were vending into crowded market places have been shifted to such open places so that the social distancing concept could be taken care of.
Some of these vendors supplying essential commodities have been shifted to school playgrounds, road sides and other open space so that the a minimum required distancing for social distancing between the vendors and the expected crowd could be ensured.
He also said that the urban local body will also soon come up with mobile vans to provide essential commodities to the people during the lockdown period.
He said, “We are trying to ensure distribution of essential products to the people. We want to ensure that in most localities such supply is maintained and stores are opened there.
We are also planning to ply mobile vans to supply the essential commodities to the people during the lockdown period.
