Bhubaneswar, July 3 (LocalWire): Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has identified 37 points in the city that are vulnerable to flooding and are deploying officials at each of the locations to oversee stormwater management.
The decision has been taken to avoid waterlogging due to possible heavy rain at several places in the city, including the arterial roads along the stretch from Hanspal on the Cuttack-Bhubaneswar national highway to the Puri road.
According to reports, the BMC is deploying one engineer and an officer at each of the 37 points to oversee the discharge of stormwater using high-powered motor pumps to prevent waterlogging.
The vulnerable points identified for deployment of pumps include Garage Chhak, Gouri Garden Hanspal, Jharpada (Shanti Nagar), Khandagiri Bari, Lane 3 of Jayadev Vihar, Laxmi Sagar, Mahavir Basti, Nayapalli, Padmavati Vihar, Paika Nagar, Saswat Vihar, and Shriram City.
The corporation has completed de-silting of 90% of the drains and natural channels in the city and hopes to complete the work soon.
The BMC has also opened a multi-agency control room to respond to emergency situations and a toll-free number for round-the-clock grievance cell.
