Berhampur, June 4 (Localwire): Family members today donated the body of Radha Ballav Patnaik, retired deputy commissioner of Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC), to MKCG Medical College and Hospital here, after he passed away after a massive cardiac arrest on Saturday.
Patnaik had wished to donate his body for the cause of the society.
As per his wish, we donated the body to the anatomy department of the medical college here,’ said Diptimaya Patnaik, a nephew of the deceased.
‘We collected hair and nails of the body to perform the rituals as per the Hindu tradition,’ said Diptimaya, a doctor working at City Hospital here.
‘Even in this moment of extreme grief, we are proud that the cadaver of my father will benefit several medical students in their studies and research,’ said Mamata, one of the daughters of the deceased.
‘The department does not have adequate number of cadavers for students and such donations help them immensely,’ said the head of anatomy department, S Rath.
‘The body has been embalmed to protect it from decomposition,’ he added.
Along with the family members and relatives of the deceased, CPM’s state secretary Ali Patnaik was present during the donation.
Patnaik had earlier served as the block development officer (BDO), tehsildar in different blocks in the state.
It was the fourth body donation in the medical college in the last seven years.
