Berhampur, August 10 (LocalWire): The body of a migrant worker from Ganjam district, who died at his workplace in Dubai about nine days ago, arrived in his village Mathura in Khallikote block on Saturday.
Basant Kumar Sadhab (38) of Mathura village died on 2 August in Dubai due to heart-attack.
When the family members received the message of his death, his wife Parjita and other family members requested the district collector Vijay Amruta Kulange to make arrangements for bringing back his body to the native village for cremation.
The district collector initiated the process directed the Chhatrapur district labour officer (DLO) Sib Narayan Sahoo to look into the matter.
The collector had also written to the state labour commission in this regard.
After the intervention of the state government, the body of Sadhab was flown to Bhubaneswar from Dubai.
The body was carried to his native village through an ambulance in presence of the DLO.
Since the deceased was a registered construction worker, a cheque of Rs 2.05 lakh was handed over to his wife immediately for cremation and to perform his last rites.
The amount was provided to the nominee of the deceased from Odisha Building and Other Construction Workers’ Welfare Fund, the DLO informed.
“The amount was provided for the immediate expenditure.
We will be looking after the livelihood of the deceased worker’s family,” additional district magistrate (ADM) Laxmidhar Sethi said.
The DLO further informed that as per the provisions, the administration was verifying to get some other monetary benefits from the company, where he was working.
