Bolangir, Sept 27 (LocalWire): Members of Samuhik Bikash Samiti, Puintala, today protested before the Collectorate here demanding adequate compensation for those farmers whose agricultural lands were damaged during the unprecedented rainfall in August.
Later, they submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister through the district administration.
During the incessant rainfall on 13 August, around 5000 hectares of agricultural land were affected due to sand casting.
The amount of compensation given by the government is too less, they alleged.
The government has provision of providing Rs 12,200 per hectare of land affected due to sand casting.
‘In case of sand casting of three inches or more, a farmer has to spend around Rs 60,000 per hectare to make it suitable for cultivation.
Hence we demand hike in the amount of compensation to farmers and immediate payment of crop insurance to them,’ convener of Samuhik Vikash Parishad, Motilal Mishra said.
