Bhubaneswar, July 8 (LocalWire): Bollywood director Ram Gopal Varma today was heavily trolled by irked Odia netizens for allegedly having lesser information on the state.
The whole controversy started after the noted horror film director shared the photos of actress Apsara Rani, hailing from Odisha who is doing his film.
He applauded her and compared her to a hurricane. He also said he hardly knew talents from the state.
“Before meeting Apsara, I didn’t even hear about Orissa since the 1999 hurricane but after meeting her now, I realised that Orissa creates all kinds of hurricanes. It’s been a great revelation that Orissa has such beauties. More power to Orissa,” he said.
Soon after the controversial tweet of the director, the actress got 10,000 followers on the social sites within 7 hours, the director admitted. “Wow. 10,000 tweet followers in 7 hours.
That must be a record for a newcomer. Hey Apsara you are thrilling,” he said.
Reacting to the tweet he was bombarded with 473 replies. One female journalist responded to him saying, “First of all this is Odisha not Orissa Mr Bhram (oopss Verma).
Secondly you are actually an unfortunate man as you have missed a lot about Odisha since 1999. Though you are from entertainment industry, (we can’t expect much),”
Another tweet also reminded the director about Odia talents in cinema like Nandita Das, Sona Mohapatra and Mira Nair.
Another tweet said, “From your above tweet, you have openly exposed your poverty of knowledge and ideas on Odisha.
Being a proud Odia, it’s my core duty to provide you some very basic facts about Odisha which symbolize its glory and pride globally.”
