Berhampur, June 25 (LocalWire): Hectic lobbying has started within the ruling BJD following the notification of the by-poll for Zilla Parishad president post in Ganjam district on Monday.
The by-poll was necessitated following the resignation of Subash Behera from the post after he was elected to the state Assembly from Chhatrapur assembly constituency during the recently concluded state election.
The by-election for the post will be held on 2 July 2019, according to the notification, issued by the district election officer.
The election will also be held on the same day for the Koraput Zilla Parishad president post, sources said,
As per the scheduled, the issue of the nomination forms and submission of the documents will be held from 10 to 11 am on the day and candidates will have time till 12 noon to withdraw their nominations.
Voting, if necessary, will be held from 12.30 to 2.00 pm and the results will be declared immediately on the day.
Experts point out that the ruling party will not face any challenge in getting its party candidate elected as the new president of Ganjam Zila Parishad since the BJD has an absolute majority in the 69-member Parishad.
The BJD will announce its candidate for the post after deliberation of senior party leaders in the district, including the newly elected MLAs and MPs.
Party supremo and chief minister Naveen Patnaik will, however, make the final decision, said a senior leader of BJD.
