Bhubaneswar, May 21 (LocalWire): Cabinet Secretary Sri Rajiv Gauba today complimented Odisha’s response to Extremely Severe Cyclonic Storm Amphan, particularly in minimizing the loss of life to the least, in a video conference with Odisha Chief Secretary Asit Tripathy.
Shri Asit Tripathy thanked the IMD for their accurate prediction of the cyclone’s path and intensity, as it helped Odisha in making advance preparations.
The community was made alert and aware through 61.26 lakh SMS messages, vehicle mounted megaphones, alert siren and voice messages from 46 towers in vulnerable areas.
Prepositioned teams included 16 NDRF, 15 ODRAF, 217 Fire Service Teams, 75 OFDC teams, Apada Mitras and Task force teams; 41 teams had been kept on standby for immediate response in case of eventuality.
Apart from this, 500 DG sets, 1513 inflammable tower lights and 1500 chain-saws were deployed.
According to the notification, around 89 blocks, 1500 Gram Panchayats and 6745 villages were affected by the cyclone; 2,00,400 people were evacuated and housed in 3228 cyclone shelters and other safe buildings.
Fishermen were brought back from the seas, and 22,050 fishing boats were berthed in safe places.
210 medical teams and 75 veterinary teams have started their operations in affected areas while 44 lakh consumers under power distribution companies like CESU and NESCO were affected.
The report informed that cleaning of roads and restoration of power supply is on fast track; drinking water supply has been resumed while power supply to 80% of affected CESU consumers has been restored.
Nearly one lakh hectors of crop damage has taken place; assessment of total damage is being done.
In the meeting, Cabinet Secretary Sri Gauba assured all help from various departments of Government of India.
