Bhubaneswar, June 24 (LocalWire): The ruling party candidates, Amar Patnaik and Sasmit Patra and the BJP nominee Ashwini Vaishnav, filed their nominations for the by-polls to three Rajya Sabha seats.
BJD’s IT cell chairman and spokesperson, Amar Patnaik and spokesperson Sasmit Patra filed their nomination papers before the returning officer in the presence of party supremo Naveen Patnaik, Parliamentary affairs minister, Bikram Keshari Arukha and other senior leaders.
BJP fielded former bureaucrat Ashwini Vaishnav as its nominee for the Rajya Sabha by-polls and the BJD decided to support his candidature.
The three seats fell vacant after the ruling party’s Achyuta Samanta, Pratap Keshari Deb and Soumya Ranjan Patnaik were elected in the general elections and resigned from the Rajya Sabha.
The polling will be held on 5 July from 9 am to 4 pm. The counting of votes will take place at 5 pm.
