Berhampur, March 26 (LocalWire): Candidates of different political parties have sought divine help and performed special rituals to appease the gods before filing their nomination papers in Ganjam district.
Food supply and consumer welfare minister Surya Narayan Patro, who’s seeking re-election from Digapahandi, visited the Ganesh temple at Hillpatna before filing his papers at the sub-collector’s office.
Two other candidates, who will contest against Patro from the seat, Pinky Pradhan and Prafulla Panda of BJP and Congress respectively, also performed special rituals in different temples before nomination.
BJD candidate from Berhampur, Bikram Kumar Panda visited the Maa Budhi Thakuramni, the presiding deity of the city, to seek her blessings before starting his rally to file his nomination.
Bhrugu Boxipatra and Kanhu Charana Pati, BJP’s Berhampur Lok Sabha and assembly candidates respectively, also sought Maa Budhi’s blessings. After filing his nomination, Pati drove straight to Tara Tarini, the famous Shakti shrine, to seek her blessings as well for his election victory.
“I have already sought blessings from the twin Goddess last week. I will again go to Tara Tarini on Tuesday,” said V. Chandra Sekhar Naidu, Congress candidate of Berhampur parliamentary seat.
First timer Pramila Bisoi, who filed her nomination for Aska Lok Sabha seat in a BJD ticket, also performed rituals at Tara Tarini. “Maa will bless me to sail smooth in the election,” she said.
Chief Minister and BJD supremo Naveen Patnaik had also visited Maa Tara Tarini temple and performed rituals before filing his nomination from Hinjili on March 20.
BJD candidate from Berhampur Chandra Sekhar Sahu also performed rituals in different temples before filing his nomination on March 21.
