Berhampur, April 16 (LocalWire): Police registered two cases against BJP candidate from Hinjili Assembly constituency, Pitambar Acharya, for abusing and threatening BJD workers. Hinjili will go to poll on Thursday.
Acharya, a first-time contestant, is pitted against the BJD supremo and chief minister Naveen Patnaik.
While a case was registered against Acharya, an advocate by profession, for abusing a person during campaigning at Kulagada under Dharakote police station, another case was registered against him at Sheragada police station for
abusing and threatening BJD supporters at Solashola village.
Acharya, however, refuted the allegation. ‘I don’t know the complainants. These are false cases that might have been lodged at the behest of the chief minister Naveen Patnaik, who is scared to lose from Hinjili,’ he said.
‘Cases have been registered against Acharya and investigation is on,’ said Aska SDPO, Suryamani Pradhan.
Acharya said two personnel security officers, provided by the government were with him while a police escort party has followed him. ‘They are witness that no such incident took place,’ the BJP candidate said.
With these two, the cases booked against Acharya went up to three. Last month, a case was registered against him at Aska police station for threatening staff of flying squad at Pitala Chhaka, near Hinjili.
