Berhampur, Feb 9 (LocalWire) At least six people including five women were arrested in Odisha’s Ganjam district for duping a man in the name of providing hassle-free bank loan, police said on Saturday.
The arrested are identified as Damayanti Martha (32) of Bhubaneswar, Sarojini Swain (24) of Puri, Madhusmita Das (22), Supriya Satapathy (20) of Kendrapara, Damayanti Das (20) of Cuttack and Asish Poda of Sambalpur.
They were arrested on the basis of a complaint lodged by Pradeep Kumar Panda, a resident of Goshaninuagaon, at the cyber police station on June 29, 2018, police said.
‘Though they claimed that the company was based in Hyderabad, no firm existed in the name and the website was also found to be fake’, police said.
The gang members had been running a travel agency business at the state capital for the last three years; however, they started a fake website last year for illegal income.
“Several people might have been cheated by the gang. We are verifying the documents seized during the raids on their houses”, police IIC Kalpana Kaunri said.
