ଅଜଣା ଲୋକଙ୍କୁ ନିଜ ପୁରୁଣା ପ୍ରାସାଦକୁ ନେଇ ସେମାନେ ସାରା ଜୀବନ ମନେ ରଖିବେ ସେ ଭଳି ଅଭିଜ୍ଞତା ପ୍ରଦାନ ପାଇଁ ଦୁଇ ଭଉଣୀ ଚିନ୍ତା କରି ଏ ଦିଗରେ ଉଦ୍ୟମ ଆରମ୍ଭ କରିଥିଲେ । ସେମାନେ ବକିଂହାମ ପ୍ରାସାଦ ଢାଞ୍ଚାରେ ୨୫ଟି କୋଠରୀକୁ ବିଭିନ୍ନ ଥିମ୍ ଏବଂ ରଙ୍ଗ ଦେଇ ପୁଣି ସଜାଇଥିଲେ । ଦୁଇ ଭଉଣୀ ସ୍ଥାନୀୟ ଲୋକଙ୍କୁ କର୍ମଚାରୀ ଭାବେ ନିଯୁକ୍ତ କରି ସେମାନଙ୍କୁ ଉପଯୁକ୍ତ ଟ୍ରେନିଂ ଦେଇଥିଲେ ।

ରାଜ ପରିବାରର ଅନ୍ୟ ସଦସ୍ୟମାନେ ବି ଅତିଥିଙ୍କୁ ସ୍ୱାଗତ କରିବା ପାଇଁ ନିୟୋଜିତ ରଖିଥାନ୍ତି ।

Twitter launches special poll emoji in Odia language

Bhubaneswar, March 24 (LocalWire): To encourage healthy discussions on elections, Twitter India has launched a special Lok Sabha emoji in Odia language to be available till May 31.

The emoji, featuring parliament, will be available in 12 different languages: Hindi, English, Bengali, Assamese, Odia, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu.

To use the emoji, one needs to use the hashtags #LokSabhaElections2019, #IndiaElection2019 in their respective language, like in odia #ଲୋକସଭାନିର୍ବାଚନ.

Twitter India said, “Welcome Election Commission of India @ECISVEEP on Twitter! Look forward to raising voter awareness together. #LokSabhaElection2019, #DeshKaMahaTyohar.”

“The Election Commission of India’s Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation program (SVEEP) on Twitter (@ECISVEEP) is set up to raise more voter awareness through the platform. #DeshKaMahaTyohar is about ensuring no voters are left behind.

“Citizens will receive crucial information directly from the Election Commission on Twitter, in turn they can engage with and amplify accurate and positive information to their community”, said Mahima Kaul (@misskaul), director, public policy and government at Twitter India.

Rourkela Steel Plant observes ‘Swachhata Pakhwada’

Rourkela, March 23 (LocalWire): A large number of students of Rourkela Steel Plant-run schools have participated in various programmes organized to mark “Swachhata Pakhwada”.

Students of Ispat English medium schools took the Swachhata pledge on March 20.

Various competitions were organized in the schools. The theme for the painting competition held for the senior students was “Clean and Green Rourkela”, while the junior students were given the theme “My School clean & green”.

Around 120 students took part in the painting competitions.

The students also took a keen interest in the quiz competitions organized at IEMS, Sector-20 and IEMS, Sector-22 which witnessed participation of more than 100 students.

All SAIL units, including the Rourkela plant, had observed the “Swachhata Pakhwada” from March 16-31.

Odisha slowly accepting LGBTQ community

Bhubaneswar, March 22 (LocalWire): HIV remains a major public health concern as no vaccine or cure has been found yet for the disease. It also has a huge effect on the LGBTQ community as the percentage of gay, bisexuals and even transgenders living with this disease is much higher than others.

After the decriminalization of homosexuality by the Supreme Court and calling the 156-year old manifestation tyrannical and rationalizing section 377 brought a new ray of hope for the community across the country. This showed that with time, perceptions were changing.

To address the need of the hour, the government sought the help of the LGBTQ community to help prevent HIV/AIDS. Odisha government, too, made them state partners to help combat the disease.

Organisations like Parichay collective, which gives a unique space to LGBT community in its organisation, NGO Sakha which is run by Meera Parida, works for this trans community along with NGO Saathi which works for the prevention of HIV AIDS. It was a matter of pride for the temple city, when these organisations came together to hosti the very first ‘Pride parade’, which was held on 1 September, 2018.

In January 2019, Odisha witnessed its first gay marriage in a Kendrapara village where Sabitri Pardia married Monalisa Nayak. This promised a better tomorrow and also raised awareness standards in remote places of Odisha.

According to the Bhubaneswar Pride team, social media is a huge platform to make the students and youth of the city aware, because at the end of the day basic human rights is celebrated regardless of sexual orientation or gender.

World Sparrow Day: Ganjam villagers woo back winged companions

Berhampur, March 21 (LocalWire): The little house bird that in Roman mythology pulls Venus’ chariot and is a symbol of love and lust, is known as man’s oldest friend, has a mention in the Bible and once boasted of 24 species worldwide, dwindled so rapidly in the 20th century that in some places not even 24 fluttered.

Fearing their extinction, conservationists have now started to celeberate them and have also designated a day for these little winged creatures. Yes, 20 March is World Sparrow day.

A village in Ganjam district has tried in their own little way to keep sparrows from extinction. Wildlife activists and villagers gathered in Baghajhari on Wednesday to observe World Sparrow Day. Several forest officials and activists also conducted a cycle rally here to mark the day.

The Yadav community in the village has come forward to conserve these little, shy and gray coloured birds in the last few years, thanks to Anchalika Bikash Parishad’s (ABP) awareness drive on the conservation of house sparrows about five years ago.

‘The population of the house sparrows in the village has increased astoundingly. From only five their numbers rose to around 250 presently,’ said the president of ABP, Sagara Kumar Patra.

 

The ABP not only provided space for breeding, but they also fed and protected the birds by building artificial nests and installing these in front of some of the houses in the village.

The sparrow conservation drive was launched in the village by distributing earthen pots and artificial nests to villagers to hang in front of the houses to attract sparrows. The pots were decorated in such a way that they attracted the birds for breeding. Initially, seven such artificial nests were distributed to the villagers. ‘Now we have installed around 30 eco-friendly artificial nests and feeder boxes in different places of the village,’ he said.

‘The villagers are doing a commendable job to conserve sparrows. I appreciate the efforts of the organization for creating awareness among the people to conserve the sparrow,’ said divisional forest officer Berhampur AK Behera.

Meanwhile, in a drive to conserve the house sparrow in association with the forest department, they have installed around 260 artificial nests in 30 different places across the district, since its launch in September last year.

Spoilt for choice at Ram Bhai’s 85-variety chai shop

Bhubaneswar, March 20 (LocalWire): Some like their morning cuppa, some relish their afternoon tea while there are others who can have a hot sip any time of the day.

And if you are one who loves to have your green tea, masala chai or English tea according to the time of the day, you need to stop by and pick yours from Ram bhai’s 85 varieties of tea.

In the ground floor of a huge market complex, surrounded by small fast food stalls, is a small tea shop, hardly visible from a distance, offering a cup of tea ranging from Rs 10 to Rs 100.

A tea connoisseur’s delight, this tiny shop at CRPF Square, is swarming with people any time of the day and owned by 35-year-old Mr Ram Pradhan, well known as Ram bhai, who hails from Cuttack.

Ram owned a fruit shop earlier followed by a shop that sold eggs but he failed in both the business as he had to shift stalls.

Ram then changed his business and started a small road-side tea stall here in 2005 and gradually set up shop selling different types of tea.

He says he has some loyal customers from Bhubaneswar and nearby cities who frequent his shop solely because of the quality of the tea he serves and also because of his demeanour.

‘I provide quality tea at good price’ says Ram bhai with a smile. He is winning hearts with his welcoming smile while serving hot tea in small earthen pots.

‘I could not afford to continue my studies after standard 9 and began working in a private company in Kolkata.

During my stay in Kolkata I learnt about a variety of herbs and ingredients and the art of preparing tea. I went on to get training from centres of Organic India in Kolkata and Hyderabad,’ Ram said.

After coming back to Odisha, he decided to setup a tea business. ‘I have wide variety of drinks which is hardly available in other shops,’ he displays proudly. Ram has recently added new items such as flower red tea, butter tea, English tea, yellow tea, chocolate tea and white tea to the menu.

According to him, ingredients required for preparing the tea are bought online and are of good quality. He is also planning to invest money to acquire a large space to open a bigger shop.

ରାଷ୍ଟ୍ରପତି ଭବନରେ ଆୟୋଜିତ ଏକ ସମାରୋହରେ ଭାବବିହ୍ୱଳ ପରିବେଶରେ ସହିଦ୍ ପ୍ରଦୀପ ପଣ୍ଡାଙ୍କ ପତ୍ନୀ ମୀନତି ପଣ୍ଡା ରାଷ୍ଟ୍ରପତିଙ୍କ ଠାରୁ ଏହି ସମ୍ମାନ ଗ୍ରହଣ କରିଛନ୍ତି । ଏହି ଅବସରରେ ପ୍ରଧାନମନ୍ତ୍ରୀ ନରେନ୍ଦ୍ର ମୋଦିଙ୍କ ସମେତ ବିଭିନ୍ନ ଦଳର ବହୁ ବରିଷ୍ଠ ନେତା, ସେନା ଓ ସିଆରପିଏଫର ଅଧିକାରୀମାନେ ଉପସ୍ଥିତ ଥିଲେ ।

ଉଲ୍ଲେଖଯୋଗ୍ୟ, ୨୦୧୮ ଡିସେମ୍ବର ୩୧ ତାରିଖ ମଧ୍ୟରାତ୍ରରେ ଜମ୍ମୁ-କାଶ୍ମୀରର ଅୱନ୍ତିପୁରା ଠାରେ ସିଆରପିଏଫ ୧୩୨ ବାଟାଲିୟନର କ୍ୟାମ୍ପରେ ଅଚାନକ ଆତଙ୍କାବଦୀ ହମଲା କରିଥିଲେ । ଏହି ସମୟରେ ସେଣ୍ଟ୍ରି ଡ୍ୟୁଟିରେ ଥିବା ପ୍ରଦୀପ ସାହସର ସହ ଆତଙ୍କବାଦୀଙ୍କ ସହ ଲଢ଼ି ସହିଦ୍ ହୋଇଥିଲେ । ଏହି ଘଟଣାରେ ୫ ଜଣ ଯବାନ୍ ସହିଦ୍ ହୋଇଥିବା ବେଳେ ୨ ଜଣ ଆତଙ୍କବାଦୀ ନିହତ ହୋଇଥିଲେ ।

ସହିଦ୍ ପ୍ରଦୀପଙ୍କ ଘର ସୁନ୍ଦରଗଡ଼ ଜିଲ୍ଲା ରାଜଗାଙ୍ଗପୁର ଉପଖଣ୍ଡର ଲିପିଲଇ ଗ୍ରାମରେ ।

MOTHER leads organ transplant awareness, research

Cuttack, March 19 (LocalWire): MOTHER (Multi Organ Transplantation and Human & Educational Research), a non-profit organization established in 2007, has been instrumental in promoting organ donation, transplant and medical research.

In an exclusive interview with LocalWire, managing trustee of MOTHER T.N. Panda said: “Besides promoting kidney transplants at SCB Medical College, his organization had also opened a five-bedded ICU and a dialysis unit in Capital Hospital.

“It forced the state government to bring suitable amendments in Human Organ Act 1994 and Odisha Anatomy Act 1975 in 2011 and 2013 respectively.”

While building consensus for the cause in the state, it faced two major hindrances – lack of facilities in hospitals and medical laws, Panda said.

According to him, organs once operated from a donor, need to be transplanted immediately.

Testing facilities before a transplant are also cumbersome and not easily available.

After concerted efforts, MOTHER could initiate the first testing facility at Apollo Hospitals in 2015.

Comparing the transplant facilities available in India with other countries, Panda said, “The transplantation rate in India is way below that of European nations like Spain, United Kingdom, Germany and other Scandinavian countries.”

He said awareness about the procedure is his NGO’s top priority, and is asking the government to include organ transplantation in school curriculum, similar to Maharashtra schools.
