Bhubaneswar, Jan 28 (LocalWire) Today, the All India Radio, Cuttack is celebrating its 73rd Founder’s Day. Dr. Kailash Nath Katju, the Governor those days, unveiled the AIR centre at Cuttack on 28th January 1948.
This station, inaugurated soon after the independence,has been a witness to Odisha’s socio-cultural development all this while.
The inauguration was followed by an announcement of VandeMatram in the voice of Late Jatin Das, the first news anchor of Akashvani Cuttack station.
Let’s know some interesting facts about the AIR Cuttack center-
Beginning only with 1 KW MW transmitter located at the Killa Fort area in Cuttack, the transmitting power increased to100 KW in 1974.
After the 1999 super cyclone, the transmitting power was further increased to 300 kW.
It has two channels, namely Vividh Bharati and FM Rainbow.
The AIR has played a significant role in the hourly dissemination of information during the 1999 Super Cyclone.
But it has also witnessed considerable damage during the cyclone.
The AIR Cuttack has given voice to personalities like Manoranjan Das, Kalindi Charan Panigrahi, Gopal Chhotray, Suren Mohanty, Nayan Kishore Mohanty, Gopal Choudhury and Debendranath Mishra.
Veteran dramatist Gopal Chhotray also started his career at Akashvani as a producer.
In 1958, Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia started composing music with his flute for the AIR Cuttack.
Distinguished singer Balakrushna Dash was also a regularcontributor to the Akashvani.
Even after his paralytic attack, he continued performing at Akashvani.
The Akashvani is quite popluar in rural Odisha, especially amongst the senior citizens of Odisha.
It has been rendering its uninterrupted service during floods, drought and other disasters ensuring connectivity in the moments of crisis for the nation as well as the state.
The AIR broadcasts different programs like Odia Bhajan, Anuchinta, and news.
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting under the Prime Minister’s Digital India program has initiated thedigitalization of the AIR owing to the extensive use of social media sites by youngsters.
