Bhubaneswar, January 13 (Localwire): The state government’s efforts of reforms in the power sector have got the thumbs up from the central government.
The state government was prased for its efforts by the Power, and New and Renewable Energy minister Raj Kumar Singh during a two-day review meeting on Power Reforms held in New Delhi on 9-10 January this year.
The Government of Odisha is now playing a leading role in electricity reform in the country and has set an example for other states.
The state government was asked the make a presentation on DISCOM reforms done by it in Odisha, sources said, adding that the state Energy Department principal secretary Bishnupada Sethi briefed the meeting about the steps taken by Odisha towards power sector reform, and the enactment of Odisha Electricity Reform Act, 1995.
As a forerunner in the distribution sector reform from first unbundling to first privatisation, Odisha had led the way in the reform nearly a decade before the enactment of Electricity Act, 2003, he said.
Sethi further stated that the current reform in distribution sector was following a well-designed framework and will address the concerns of all stakeholders.
