Jagatsinghpur, April 23 (LocalWire): Accusing the centre of neglecting Odisha, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said the central leaders show up only during elections in the state but forget during calamites.
Addressing public rallies in Paradip and Jagatsinhpur on Monday, Patnaik said that no one came to its help during calamities like Hudu Hudo, Titili and Phalin. Central leaders only gave false assurances.
He recalled how the people of the state had to struggle for food and other essential items in the aftermath of the 1999 super cyclone. He said people were not aware on the extent of the damage.
Back then, Odisha was not self-reliant on rice and was dependent on imports. But today, it has changed. There’s a huge stock reserved for emergency situations and there’s no need to worry, he said.
He accused the BJP leaders of conspiring to stop the state government’s KALIA scheme. They have no sympathy towards farmers but shed crocodile tears during elections, he said.
Patnaik said that no one can stop the state government’s flagship scheme till he’s alive.
“Our government has provided financial assistance to 40 lakh farmers so far,’ he asserted.
He accused the BJP of promoting hatred and said people will give their answer in the elections. He also highlighted about various government schemes for women such as Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana.
