Kendrapara, June 4 (LocalWire): A three-member central team on Thursday visited Amphan affected seaside villages in Rajkanika to assess the extent of the damage.
The team was led by Amrish Pal Singh, the Superintending Engineer of Central Water Resources Department.
The team held meetings with the district collector and other officials of Kendrapara district.
Collector Samarth Verma stated that 1592 villages in 9 blocks had been affected by cyclone Amphan; while crops over 478 hectares of land had been destroyed, 1451 houses and 455 electric poles had been damaged.
Villagers informed the team that the saline embankments were weakened and in dis-repair while the sluice gates in many villages are on the verge of collapse.
Talking to media-persons, the team has assured all cooperation and assistance, particularly with regards to the loss of livelihood and damage to infrastructure.
Team members also praised the work done by the administration in terms of extending relief to affected people in the district.
