Bhubaneswar, November 19 (LocalWire): The Union Ministry of Culture and Tourism has so far released Rs 12.46 crore towards conservation of the 12th century Puri Jagannath temple in the past three years.
Replying to a question by Jual Oram in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday, the Minister of State for Culture and Tourism Prahlad Singh Patel informed that the central government has granted Rs 21.44 crore for the purpose during the financial years 2016-17, 2017-18, and 2018-19.
Odisha is home to 80 monuments including the Jagannath temple in Puri, Lingraj temple in Bhubaneswar, and the Sun temple in Konarak.
These monuments are being protected by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) as per the provisions of the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act, 1958.
According to Patel, the ASI was sanctioned Rs 6,07,15,581 for 2016-17, Rs 4,02,24,751 for 2017-18, and Rs 2,37,93,258 for 2018-19 for conservation work of the Jagannath temple in Puri.
