Bhubaneswar, Dec 8 (LocalWire): Union women and child development minister Maneka Gandhi has ordered a probe into the alleged sexual harassment to inmates of Dream Centre Shelter Home (DCSH) at Balitikiri village in Dhenkanal district.
“I have asked Secretary, Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India to get an inquiry conducted in this issue,” Gandhi wrote in a letter addressed to Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, describing the incident as ‘a matter of great concern’ and that she was ‘profusely aggrieved’.
She has also asked the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) to inspect all homes in the state.
“I strongly believe that the concerned authorities must assume moral responsibility for this incident,” her letter read.
The incident came to fore after girls staying at DCSH alleged that the centre’s in-charge Simanchal Naik and managing director Fayaz Rehman used to sexually harass them.
Based on their complaint, the police sealed the shelter, run by non-governmental organization (NGO) Good News India (GNI) and arrested Naik and Fayaz Rehman.
