Khordha, Jan 16 (LocalWire): In a drive against those defaulting electricity dues, the Central Electricity Supply Utility of Odisha on Thursday terminated the connections of 53 commercial consumers in Khordha district, officials said.
The consumers were not clearing their arrears despite repeated reminders. 39 special squads formed by CESU carried out the disconnection exercise, they said.
CESU has identified defaulting consumers in 11,397 villages.
Similarly, it has formed 413 squads to carry out the disconnection exercise in nine coastal districts which come under its jurisdiction.
The company had a pending arrear of Rs 1,971 crore to be collected from more than 7 lakh consumers by November 2019.
The power distribution company said it will carry out disconnection drive in a phased manner.
