Balangir, December 5 (LocalWire): The forest department, here, have set up a small check gate on the Bijakhamman-Sikachhida forest road, in front of Mega Nursery, to curb the pollution caused by the picnickers who had started to throng the small waterfall inside the forest range of Bijakhaman since it was discovered a couple of months ago.
The place was dubbed as Mini Harishankar by people, and the forest area was fast becoming a big garbage bin when a group of local youths decided to intervene and spent hours during the weekend to clean the area and restore the natural environment for the animals and birds there.
As reported by the LocalWire, the group also submitted a petition to Bolangir assistant conservator of forest BC Roul demanding that a check gate be set up restrict the flow of visitors and further deterioration of habitat of wild animals, birds and other living beings in the forest.
The check gate was inaugurated by the Balangir Divisional Forest Officer Sameer Satpathy on Tuesday evening.
