Bhubaneswar, Jan 1 (LocalWire) Neighbouring Chhattisgarh might not be releasing adequate water of Mahanadi to Odisha.
An inspection team from Odisha, led by Hirakud Dam Chief EngineerJyotirmayee Ratha recently visited Chhattisgarh and its several projects.
In their report, sources said, they have mentioned that the neighbour has opened only one gate of the Kalma Barrage.
“Also there are closed gates at Sheorinarayan, Basantpur, Mironi and Saradihi barrages that are resulting in limited flow of Mahanadi water to Odisha,” said sources, quoting the team’s report.
Earlier in December, the Odisha government was asked to submit an affidavit to seek a stay order on constructing barrages on Mahanadi river by Chhattisgarh.
Odisha had filed a petition in the tribunal accusing the Chhattisgarh government for allegedly trying to control Mahanadi water flow by building “illegal” barrages over the river.
The Mahanadi River Disputes Tribunal directed the Odisha government to submit the affidavit within two weeks.
The next hearing is scheduled for Feb 9.
