Bhubaneswar, March 13 (LocalWire): Chief electoral officer Surendra Kumar has sensitized the political parties about new rules to be followed during elections at an all-party meeting here.
Odisha’s four-phase simultaneous assembly and general elections will kick-start on April 11.
The CEO said many new guidelines have been introduced for elections this year.
“Earlier, candidates had to declare only the last IT return for self, spouse and dependents. Now it is mandatory to declare for last five years, as well as foreign assets if any,” Kumar said.
It’s also compulsory for candidates to give their PAN card details and advertisement of criminal antecedents, if any, on TV and newspapers at least three times during campaigning, he added.
Tuesday’s meeting was attended by representatives of all political parties.
In a related development, the CEO has shortlisted names of six celebrities of the state under the SVEEP programme for spreading awareness about elections among voters.
Those shortlisted are sprinter Dutee Chand, para-athlete Jayanti Behera, para-shuttler Pramod Bhagat, singer Rituraj Mohanty and cine artistes Sivani Sangita and Swaraj.
They will encourage young and new voters to exercise their franchise in the elections.
