Balasore, November 15 (LocalWire): Child rights protection activists on Thursday intervened and rescued a minor girl from getting married in Kainagari area here.
The incident was reported from Basta area and the child rights activists along with local CDPO and police rushed to the site after receiving a phone call through the toll-free service.
The caller informed that a 21-year old Kuber Das of village Sahada under Singla police station limits was getting married to a minor girl of Kainagari.
Although the intervention of the authorities triggered anger among the parents and villagers, the activists counseled them about the adverse effect of early marriage and explained that marriage of a girl less than 18 years was an offence under the law.
Both parties were let off after the girl’s parents gave a written assurance that they would not marry her till she turns a major.
