Why we celebrate Christmas?
It is the birth anniversary of Jesus of Nazareth.
He is a spiritual leader whose teachings framed the base of Christianity.
The name Christmas is derived from “Mass of Christ or Jesus”.
The first Christmas was celebrated in 336 AD in Rome.
Then who is Santa Claus?
Saint Nicholas is the original name of Santa Claus, who hailed from Turkey.
He belonged to a very wealthy family and he lost his parents when he was quite young.
He had a heart of kindness. So, he used to give secret gifts to people or children who needed it.
He became the very essence of Christmas Day as he followed the principle of Jesus of giving love and sharing what you have with others who don’t.
Why is the Christmas tree decorated?
The tradition of decorating the trees has been followed since ages.
The tree symbolizes continuity of life. This is why the trees used for Christmas decoration are evergreen trees.
There is also a belief that planting and decorating an evergreen tree keeps away witches, evil spirits and diseases.
If we look back to the history, Germany is the first country to start decorating a Christmas tree.
