Rourkela, December 5 (LocalWire): “Cinema as a medium of mass communication has an important role to play in society building.
It plays a vital role as a role model for the society,” renowned filmmaker, critic, and writer Dr. Piyush Ray said at a discussion organised by the Public Relations Society of India (PRSI) at the Rourkela Club.
Responding to the questions about the role of cinema in our life, Dr. Ray highlighted that one cannot ignore the fact that cinema influences our lives in a big way.
“The dialogues, the characters, the scenes, and the songs all leave a huge impact on our life,” he said.
Ray also spoke about various aspects of Indian cinema and how it has a different place compared to other art forms like literature, sculpture, and music.
“We have many classics depicting the facts of society. Sholay is one such movie, which affected or influenced the society to a large extent,” he said, adding with over two billion movie tickets being sold all over the country last year it is evident that cinema will continue to influence people.
Earlier in the evening a documentary on Indian cinema and society, Pleasure, Pride, and Prejudice made by Dr. Ray was screened.
