Berhampur, October 3 (Local Wire) Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC) handed over 22 community toilet complexes to women self-help groups (SHG).
The task to operate and maintain these toilets was given to 15 SHGs for aperiod of three years.
The civic body had handed over six community toilet complexes to different SHGs three months ago.
“We have handed over 28 out of 31 community toilets to the women SHGs for the operation and maintenance for next three years,” said Chakravarti Singh Rathore, BeMC commissioner.
Describing the project to be the first of its kind in the state, MLA(Berhampur) R.Ch. Chyaupatnaik said, this concept might be implemented in other urban areas after the success of the project in Berhampur.
BeMC has also assigned the women SHGs for construction of three mini hybrid toilets.
The construction cost of proposed mini-hybrid toilet complex has been estimated to be around Rs 40,000 per seat.
The mini hybrid toilets will be specially designed for rain water harvesting purpose.
