Bhubaneswar, Mar 21 (Local Wire): Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Saturday ordered imposition of lockdown from Sunday to March 29 in five districts of Odisha which host maximum persons who recently had travel history to foreign countries.
In his communication on Saturday, the CM announced the move.
It has now been decided that the lockdown will be imposed in districts like-Khurda, Cuttack, Kendrapara , Ganjam and Angul besides mandatory lockdown in cities like-Puri, Rourkela ,Sambalpur, Jharsuguda ,Balasore,Jajpur road and Jajpur town, Bhadrak.
Justifying the move, the CM said, “Time has come for us to take the extraordinary step and sacrifice, to protect our State and our people. We have more than 3000 people who have returned from foreign countries,”
The CM also said, “Hence in the first phase, we are going for a near complete lockdown in all these areas from 7 am tomorrow till 9pm of 29th March. I humbly request you to stay at home and come out only for basic services,”
The CM said that during the lockdown hospitals, clinics, medical shops, grocery shops, restaurants (only takeaways and home deliveries), vegetables, meat and milk shops/bread and bakery (but selling of tea and other beverages in the same premises have to be closed), Railways, Bus stands Airports will be open as also Public Transport.
On the other band administration, Police , Health, Fire, ODRAF, Electricity, Water, Municipal Services, Banks, ATMs ,Petrol pumps shall remain open alongwith private establishments that support the above services or are linked to the fight against coronavirus.
It has also asked private companies to allow their employees to work from home and in case they cannot do so they should get a certificate from the Collector to continue works during lockdown.
The lockdown order of the CM has been planned on the day when the Prime Minister Narendra Modi also has appealed to people to ensure Janta Curfew.
