Public awareness was carried out through publicity vans and rallies at Mayurbhanj and Balasore districts today.
It was part of world population fortnight campaign as mentioned by the ministry of health on Twitter.
World Population Day is celebrated on 11 July, every year to make people aware of global population and its effect on overall development and programmes like family planning, gender equality, poverty, maternal health and human rights.
With rapid population explosion, we are on the verge of facing depletion of various natural resources and thus, it is necessary to start contributing to efforts to save the resources around.
World Population Day was established by the governing council of the United Nations’ development programme in 1989.
It was inspired by the public interest in Five Billion Day on 11 July 1987, the approximate date on which the world’s population reached five billion.
