Berhampur, October 4 (Local Wire) Congress party launched project ‘Shakti’ to keep touch with its booth level workers in an attempt to strengthen the organization ahead of next year’s general elections.
Congress is the third major political party after ruling BJD and BJP to rely on social media to connect with the grassroots party workers in Ganjam, the home district of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
To enroll, a party worker has to send an SMS with the voter identity card number.
The AICC will establish two-way communication with them, said Pradip Majhi, former MP and working president, Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC).
All enrolled members will directly get details about party activities and a recorded call from Congress president Rahul Gandhi.
In near future, the Congress president is likely to held teleconference with the booth-level workers to get feedbacks from them, Majhi added.
“This will help us to analyze the party’s strength and weakness ahead of Lok Sabha poll 2019,” he said.
Project Shakti is a nationwide initiative of the Congress ahead of the General election and already launched in different states.
Terming it is important to focus on strengthening the party at booth level, he said, “The project Shakti will help to do that.”
The Congress in Ganjam district faced a setback when the party’s senior leaders including former union minister Chandra Sekhar Sahu, AICC member Bikram Panda, district Congress president Bhagaban Gantayat along with several corporators of the party resigned and joined in BJD along with their supporters in the last February.
