Berhampur, Dec 29 (LocalWire) Normal life in Kandhamal was paralyzed as unprecedented cold wave once again gripped the tribal dominated district, after a break of one day.
The minimum temperature in district headquarters town Phulbani on Saturday was recorded at 7 degree Celsius, while temperature at hill town Daringibadi went down to 6 degree Celsius, the lowest in the state.
The previous night temperature of Phulbnai and Daringinbadi was higher than Saturday’s temperature.
The interior parts of the district, including Bramhanigaon, Kotagarh, Belaghara, Raikia and Phiringia, also experienced severe cold as the minimum temperature in these pockets dipped lower than the temperature in Phulbani.
A blanket of fog engulfed almost all areas in morning hours causing low visibility conditions and affected the flow of vehicular traffic.
Tourists, however, thronged to Daringibadi, situated at an altitude of about 280 meter above the sea level, well-known as the coldest place in the state and “Kashmir of Odisha”, to enjoy the cold climate of the hill town.
Cold wave blowing from the northwest side and snow-fall in Himanchal Pradesh are some of the reason for the dip of mercury in several places in the state, including Kandhamal district, said weather experts.
As per the latest weather forecast, the cold climate will prevail for some more days.
